A translational medicine center was established in Guangzhou on March 16 through a partnership between Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital and a Europe-based research platform, marking a new step in Guangdong's global medical cooperation.
The agreement was signed between the hospital and the Translational Excellence in Asia and Europe Network (TEA-NET), alongside the unveiling of a sub-center aimed at advancing cross-border medical research and talent development.
Li Hongzhi, deputy director of the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office, attended the signing ceremony. He noted that Guangdong has long been at the forefront of China's opening-up and international engagement, with the provincial foreign affairs office actively building platforms to connect local medical institutions with leading global experts.
The new partnership is expected to boost the province's scientific innovation capacity and strengthen its pool of high-level medical professionals, he said.
Li added that the collaboration will focus on translational medicine, accelerating the conversion of research results into clinical applications and delivering tangible benefits to public health. The initiative is also seen as injecting fresh momentum into Guangdong's efforts to build a high-quality healthcare system.
The Eurasian center, recognized by Academia Europaea and headquartered at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, specializes in fostering cross-continental cooperation in medical research and talent training across Europe and Asia.
Leading scientists and medical experts from China and Europe, including academicians and institutional heads, also attended the event.
